Brain for IB and TSA 9/21/15

I have decided to model a brain for THE SCIENCE OF JOY video for SciViz and a more artistic version for IB. I originally planned on using 3D Max to do a particle model of my brain. I realized quickly that it is a bad idea to try and do complex models in a program that I have never used. Like a really bad and confusing experience. Also our computers don't like 3D Max too much, like every thing stopped working. So I went back to Mudbox, home sweet home. I then went crazy on making photo accurate hemispheres (see reference image). I made all the gyri and sulci of the brain. Then I cleaned them up using amply for the contrast, knife for divisions, smooth, and scult as well. Now, I just have to do the stem and cerebellum to finish the modeling part. I will make it hyper realistic for TSA and super artsy fartsy for IB.

9/17/15

I created a new blog foe TSA SciViz. I will be doing "The Science of Joy." I have began research on making a realistic brain. I will do this in 3DS Max. This will realistic and used multiple times.

I model the base that I will put the particles on in Maya before starting the videos. This began with a sphere and I mainly used the grab, sculpt, and smooth tool.

Today I spent about an hour and 15 minutes sculpting a cactus alpha. I used imprinting otions to create the base. I then cleaned it up using flatten, smooth, and scrap. This leaves me here:
Next I went in and cleanup 2 rows until they were perfect. They I went in a microscopic view to fix the needles:
Then, I started using flatten and relax to create depth and natural ridges. This left me here:

Then I amplified to get detail. And went into screen distance mode:
Next, I extracted a tiff:

Finally, I went into photoshop made it 16 bit and saved it as a tiff stamp. And now I'm free.

Today, I worked on my cactus project. The project revolves around the Hebrew term Tzabre. Today I finished the base sculpt and focused on getting a natural jogging pose. The hard part was bending the toes and fingers to get a natural feel to the jog. I also painted on a base layer, so that I can work on sculpting next. I am currently making a cactus stamp using Mudbox and Photoshop in order to speed up my sculpt and add accuracy to it. After I am done with that, I will begin sculpting. Then painting. I am probably going to use air brush and dry brush instead of projection painting for this piece.

9/4/15

Today, I worked on my old horror movie poster. I finished the back ground by using a charcoal/chalk filter followed by a watercolor filter. Then I put a green layer of 10% opacity to tint it. I then moved the ant into the movie poster. I adjusted the size to make it look like the bottom front foot in standing on the bottom of the poster, while the back leg is pushing off of the side of the poster. I then used the 2D hyphae to create smoke and then layered a detailed 3D hyphae (with low opacity over it). Next, I downloaded old movie typography and wrote "IT'S IN THEM" on it. This is my mixed media project (Photoshop and Mudbox). It represents how American Society freaks out over any small thing and obsesses over it in fear, such as with the Ebola scare. I used the ant "zombifying" fungus, Cordyceps, to display this.
